Designing With Big-Beads
If you ask yourself what you can do with big-beads, here are some design ideas…
Before showing you some ideas, few words about our favorites, the one we often and really like to use.
-
Tagua nuts also called vegetal ivory are natural seeds.
They are polished, easily carved and dyed in many colors. Their natural off white color looks like animal ivory. We particularly like and use "jumbo" Tagua nuts for their oversized shape, roundness and softness.
They add a strong visual effect in any bead pattern. As they are big, we use them for long necklace .
The pictures below show different patterns.
- We like also recycled glass beads, especially the rectangle one. You can come up with very interesting designs.
Here for example, ewe have glued four together to make a pendant for a long necklace. We have just added flat charms to give a summery feeling.
Even though they exist in few colors and they are heavy, you can make different style of jewelry ( short or long necklace, brooch…)
Here, we have mixed recycled glass beads (drops, flowers, round) with multicolor tourmaline and heavy craft chain.
The idea was to give a "modern look " to the necklace.
- Plastic/resin beads are interesting too. You can find various shapes such as large rectangles, bi-cones, ovals, oval links… in 30 or 32 mm.
We love using them for their "matte aspect" finish, for their lightness and for their beautiful colors!
We like to mix them with shiny beads to bring a visual contrast to the jewelry pattern!
Some brands carry sophisticated colors and even though resin is considered as plastic, you can come up with astonishing jewelry!
With some "left over" you can make cute accessories like key rings for example. Look at the picture below.
- Gemstones has big and unusual shapes as well.
Agate, rose/blue quartz, opaline, jade, chalcedony have large faceted nuggets and can be easily used as focal pendant. Again, you can glue a charm and make it more interesting.
For the "opera" necklace, we have mixed dyed green quartz with Czech glass daggers. It is something nice to make if you have to be dressy!
We are happy to share some design ideas and you will see that the possibilities are endless!
You'll be able to make fancy, colorful or elegant jewelry. Your choice. As usual, as easy as 1-2-3 with a fun and creative spirit!
Fancy Patterns For Necklace Making

Tagua nuts or big resin beads can enhance a long necklace.
These necklaces are strung with heavy thread wire such as Tigertail or Softflex.
The first one with dark red and yellow orange follows a specific bead pattern and the second one was strung randomly with African and Czech beads.
Lariat Making

Add visual interest to a lariat by finishing it with contrasting colors and shapes (here green flat plastic beads).
Pendant Making

A simple collage can embellish a large and flat gemstone (rose quartz) or recycled glass big-beads.
Others

Again, use the collage technique to make key-rings for example.
