What is collage-ideas about?

This website is about making jewelry using simple and easy techniques and the collage technique is a super one to embellish big stones, beads, donuts and more.

This term comes from the french "coller" : To glue.
A flat part is glued on a non- porous surface.

Here, the purpose is to beautify a jewelry.

It can be used for any type of jewelry: choker, pendant, necklace, bracelet, earrings and of course rings.
This technique is one of our favorite to make costume jewelry in a snap!

What can you glue? How do you apply the glue?

Very simple… As easy as 1-2-3 with a fun and creative spirit!

• Donuts, large beads are perfect for this type of project. The surface must be flat and large enough to have one or more small charms.
  We use craft charms, our favorites are little birds, butterflies, dragonflies all these beautiful little insects because they add so much life and lightness in the jewelry.
  It is almost as if you could feel them flutter from a flower to another!
  Again, as we do often in this website, you can play with symbols when making a jewelry for a gift for example.
  To name a few, a dove symbolizes peace, purity, 2 butterflies together symbolizes love. Drogonflies have a very strong symbolic in Asia: They symbolize strength, courage, happiness…
  As you can see a very rich subject!

• You can also glue flat beaded flowers. We make our own one with buttons and seed beads in different patterns for different styles.
  Of course they are longer to make but the technique is quite easy and you can get an impressive result in few hours!

• There are different types of glues in craft stores, be sure to use a strong one. E-6000 is a good one.
  Apply a thin coat on the surface and let it dry slowly (drying time varies from 24 to 72 hours).
  Epoxy is an other good brand, you need to mix two parts together and the drying time varies from 5 to 20 minutes.
  If you are using plastic buttons as collage ideas, you need to cut the shank button first with a cutter and file it softly.

The pictures below show different examples for collage-ideas.

• The first collage is made with large rose quartz beads and turquoise birds.
  As the stone's surface was not completely flat, we have added a thin black disc in between the bird and the rose quartz stone.
• The second one has little butterflies glued on large recycled glass beads.
  Again we have added a black disc in between for more security and to echo with the black onyx round beads used for the necklace itself.
• A gold bird and a flat rings are glued on a mother of pearl donut.
  We wanted to give a "romantic feeling" to this pendant.
• A beaded flower is glued on a black resin pendant.
  Fun and classic together!
