Long-Necklace
Lariat Design Idea

This long necklace is a lariat and can be wrapped like a scarf around your neck.

You can wear it wrapped once, twice or more depending of the style you want to give to you necklace.

Here, no need to have clasps or toggle!

This necklace is made with Indonesian, glass, seed beads and ended with 2 flat green plastic beads.

You can finish it with any kind of big beads., not too heavy though!

The idea here was to play with contrasting and repetitive colors and patterns.

Even though the flat green beads make a contrast with the dark red glass beads, some green accents can be seen here and there along the necklace to create something harmonious.

With the green and dark red colors, this type of lariat can be wore in any season!

How To

long-necklace-making

For a better stability, this long-necklace was made in 2 parts linked together by a loop.

Decide the length of your lariat ( add 20 cms for the tail), cut the wire thread, fold it in 2 and cut in the middle.

First part

  • String a crimp bead or 2 in the thread wire and make a loop.
  • String your beads, you can follow this bead pattern.

Almost at the end, string a crimp bead, the flat bead and 4/5 seed beads and pass your tail trough the green bead and the crimp beads.

  • Flatten the crimp bead with your flat nose plier and pass some tail one bead before cutting.

The second part is done the same way, just string the second thread inside the first loop before making the second loop so the 2 loops can be linked together.

Once you have a bead pattern in mind, this long necklace can be done in less than 1 hour!

This lariat is made with neutral colors with a touch of orange!
You can wear it like a lariat but it is not wrap with a "knot" like a regular lariat.
You close it not behind your neck but in in the middle of the bust with a tiny clasp. As it was made for a gift, we have added a small love charm!

We wanted to make a long necklace which can be wrapped many time around the neck. We have cheated a little but this tiny clasp brings more stability to this necklace and can be wear comfortably.

Wearing a lariat is not always comfortable unless the jewelry is stable enough with a "knot" which sit properly otherwise it may come off all the time!
