Want to make a mother of pearl pendant? Easy ...
Pick up a nice shell and embellish it with gemstones and nice quality findings.
Shells are usually sold with a little hole, you don't have much to do: just embellish them!
The color vary from iridescent white to light yellow or grey. It is also easy to find them with beautiful designs such as carved, inlayed, weaved...)
We prefer to design with natural, plain shell and embellish it with beads or gemstones. We chose here a carved agate flower bead, a pink opal teardrop and few others rondelles.
The agate flower is the link between the shell, the chain and the neckwire!

Supplies

• A shell
• A teardrop opal
• Few rondelles
• An agate carved flower

Findings:

• A neckwire
• Craft chain
• Tigertail or softflex stringing wire
• Crimp beads
• Head and eye pins
Pliers, cutter

How-To

• Cut a piece of chain (copper or gold).
• Make a few " bead dangles" using the simple loop technique and attach them to the chain.
• Attach the drop to the chain using the stringing technique with a thin nylon wire and a crimp bead.
• See the backside of the pendant: string a rondelle in a long head pin, pass through the shell, string on the chain, pass through the flower.
• Adjust, cut the head pin.
• Pass the neckwire through the mother of pearl pendant.

Quick tips:

We used the stringing technique for the opal because this bead has a very small hole, too small for a regular thin head pin.
We don't mind mixing beautiful beads like gemstones with craft findings, but it has to be nice and good quality findings. Choose them carefully.
Your tools need to be always close by during your jewelry making project: a round nose plier, a flat nose plier, glue, scissors, cutter.
Have a good working, light and a comfortable chair.
