Sequins
For A Necklace Idea

Traditionally, sequins also called "paillettes" are used for embroidery. They are flat, lightweight and come indifferent shapes, sizes and colors.

They are mostly used for home accessories or in the fashion industry.
We wanted to use them in a bead pattern.
The reason we really like making costume jewelry is because it allows you try different mix and matches!
Almost everything is possible!

We used the "paillettes" here as bead caps.

Bead caps are metal findings and are used for fancy, fantasy, costume jewelry to embellish a bead.
They are rounded or flat, come in different sizes to be adjusted to the bead's size.
The idea is to finish neatly, soberly, discretely a bead or a bead pattern.

Here, it is the opposite: they are really visible!

This pattern is a real mix and match: glass flute beads, carnelian carved gemstones and pietersite brown beads and labradorite rondelles!

We played with

    repetition:
  • Color : grey hues in the long flute beads, the sequins, the labradorite rondelles, grey shades in the pietersite and the silk thread.
  • Flower : the carved carnelian et the "paillettes".
  • The flute beads in two colors.
    Contrast:
  • light and heavy,
  • contrasting colors (dark red, grey and orange).
The use of gemstone properties:
  • Carnelian is a calming and relaxing stone. It is said that this orange stone makes you feel happy, joyful.
I love to wear this necklace just to be able to touch and feel these carnelian flowers. It helps me when I don' t feel so well!

This long necklace is made with what we call the "fancy knotting" technique.
We call it fancy because the knotting technique is traditionally used for pearls: a knot is made in between each pearl so they don't rub against each other and the thread is not visible.

As you can see in the picture, the thread (here silk) is used as a part of the design.

This is a double strand necklace, lightweight, casual and easy to wear.
Carnelian through its color and properties" pops up" the pattern and it gives a nice vibe to the jewelry !

Let's see now how to make it!
