What type of shell-charms can you use to make jewelry?

The first idea which come to my mind is to take small real shells , any type really (cowries, olives, nauticals, bullets, cypreas… ), glue a short head pin and when glued make a loop.
These little charm can be dangling on a chain for example. On the first picture, you can see a bracelet made with a craft chain and charms; you could for example use shells instead. It can be a nice "souvenir" from your holidays.

Using the same technique, you can also add them to a chain (like dangles) for key rings or close it around a summer bag handle ( kind of tassel).

In a summer house, you can also use them as wine glass charms!

I often finish a gift wrap with tiny shells when I use a plain paper. Actually, it is very nice on craft paper!

Let's go back to jewelry making…
The following pictures show design ideas made with mother of pearl.
Nacre comes from an inner sea shell layer. You can see its iridescent color and I am sure you can imagine its silky texture! You can find so many different and beautiful shapes especially now with the laser cut technique.

We use fetishes a lot for our jewelry. They are cute and are nice little details in a pattern!
You can find birds, moon, hearts, flowers and leaves … All adorable shell-charms!

On the first three pictures, you can see how to use them: as earwires, dangling on a chain, finishing a bracelet. Endless possibilities!

The last picture shows extra thin and flat shell coin.
It is very lightweight and make cute earrings with craft charms. All inexpensive and made in a snap!

My Tips

Start making jewelry with craft findings. With copper or antique gold for example, you can make very nice jewelry.

They are less expensive than silver, gold plated or gold filled. You will be able to experiment and not feel guilty if you waste a lot of material.

After some time, try Silver findings.
Use gemstones meanings for making a gift. For example rose quartz symbolizes love, friendship.
Embellish simple, easy: embellish your beads with bead caps, or a simple collage.

Even a plastic bead can look beautiful with a simple bead cap.
Color combination can be an issue; it is not something easy to mix beads together (at least for me). Take your time and don't hesitate to mix different types of beads ( glass/plastic…) together. Trends following can give you ideas.
