How can you use silk-thread for jewelry making?
It can be used for:
-
pearl knotting the classic way with a knot in between each pearl,
- or in a more fancy way, with thread being a part of the design.
- You can of course use it to string beads.
In our free e-book, you we present different types of threads you can find and use to string beads.
Note that most countries have their own brands and sizes are named differently as well.
You can finish your jewelry 2 ways:
With french bullion (gimp) or a bead tip.
If you want to knot between pearls, here is a simple technique.
You can also watch the video.
This technique requires a double thread.
If you are using a single thread, pre-carted thread for example, you can use an awl or a big pin to make your knot. Here' how here. It is simple but requires a bit of practice.
Note that the craft market offers nylon or polyester thread, stronger than silk-thread and does not loosen with time.
We choose to show a necklace idea made with silk-thread, kukui natural and dark red drop beads.
Here, red drops beads are used as bead caps.
Scroll down and you will see craft and silver bead caps. There are used to embellish beads.
As you can see in the picture here, kukui nuts doesn't have not a "regular" shapes, it was therefore difficult to put a ready made bead cap which could be adjusted to this particular shape that's why we decided to embellish differently.
This is a repetitive bead pattern space out with three different colors of thread: yellow, pink and black. Pink and yellow add a bit of color in the pattern.
Within this repetitive pattern, we played with contrast: heavy and light, small and big , thin (the thread) and rounded ( the beads).
Not the that we have used here only soft material.
We have finished the long necklace with a double knot hidden in a metal closure for multi-strand jewelry. It is long and light enough to wear it in a single, double or even triple strand.
Let's see now how to make a necklace!
