Silk Thread
For Charming Necklace Design Idea!

Want to use silk thread in your jewelry design? It is easy and can be a lot of fun. Traditionally, silk thread is used for knotting pearls, gemstones, semiprecious beads. A knot between each bead brings beauty, stability, security to the jewelry. There are few brands, each of them offer beautiful colors. The sizes can be given by numbers: (00, the thinnest to FFF, the heaviest ) or 1 to 12 ( 1 being the thinnest). It comes on spools or on carded with an attached needle (2 meters). Attached needle on silk is very convenient for stones with small holes. For this handmade jewelry, the knotting technique adds some fantasy into the design. Natural kukui and glass beads are mixed with 3 different colors of thread. We choose natural kukui beads because they are lightweight and have large holes. Glass drop beads are used to embellish kukui beads. Want to make it?

- Leave 3 or 4 cms and make another knot.

- Finish by making a double or triple knots and hide the knots with a clasp or bead cap (see the picture).

Quick tips: It is important to take a medium-heavy to heavy thread, proportional to the bead's size and weight. Don't leave to much space between each beads ( 2 to 4 cms ). This is a repetitive pattern with lightweight beads, changing the pattern is easy: Design with multicolor beads with only one color for the silk thread for example. Your tools need to be always close by during your jewelry making project: a round nose plier,a flat nose plier, glue, scissors, cutter. Have a good working, light and a comfortable chair.
